All 3 films presented here for the first time on DVD, restored and remastered, demonstrate Lombard's versatility and strengths as an actress during a career transition. The romantic drama "No More Orchids" (1932) has spoiled socialite losing her heart in a shipboard romance to working stiff Lyle Talbot. Her controlling grandfather has an arranged marriage in mind for her, and he's going to let father Walter Connolly's business go under to make his point. "Brief Moment" (1933) stars Carole as a torch singer who charms the wealthy Gene Raymond, and to the great surprise of her disapproving family, strives to get him to grow up and take responsibility. Donald Cook, Monroe Owsley co-star. "Lady By Choice" (1934) has Lombard as a fan dancer who is forced to clean up her act after being arrested. In lieu of a jail sentence, she adopts bag lady May Robson as a "mom" to help her change her ways. Within one year of making this last film for Columbia, Carole would become a major star. These 3 films offer a fascinating look at Carole before she became renown as a dazzlingly beautiful and sexy comedienne. She simply was not with us long enough; perishing in a plane crash enroute home from a US WWII bond tour. She was only 33 years old.
