Charlie & Co."" was the Richmonds, an middle class African American family that lived on the South Side of Chicago. The family consisted of father Charlie (who worked for the Division of Highways), wife Diana (who worked as a schoolteacher) and the couple's three children: 16-year-old Junior, 15-year-old Lauren and 9-year-old Robert. During the latter half of the first season, Della Reese joined the cast as Charlie's sister, Aunt Rachel.
