Ignoring the protests of her millionaire father, Doris Maynard elopes with the family chauffeur, Dan Simmons. He turns out to be a complete wastrel, stealing her jewelry to pay his gambling debts, and forging her father's name on bad checks. When Simmons is reported killed in an auto crash, the unhappy socialite is spared the scandal of a divorce. Several years pass and she finds true happiness by marrying up-and-coming District Attorney Donald Thorne. But Simmons is alive, and reappears to blackmail Doris. When the extortionist is found shot dead, she finds herself accused of murder. Believing his wife innocent, Thorne works feverishly in an attempt to clear her name.
Monte Blue rose to prominence in the role of Danton in D.W. Griffith's 1921 epic, Orphans Of The Storm. The rugged silent star played opposite Gloria Swanson, Norma Shearer and Clara Bow before the sound era saw him transition to supporting roles. Henry B. Walthall is best remembered for his role as "The Little Colonel" in D.W. Griffith's masterpiece The Birth Of A Nation. Her Forgotten Past features performances by veteran character actors William V. Mong and Dewey Robinson.
HER FORGOTTEN PAST was released by Mayfair Studios, meaning that all the characters suffer in evening clothes in a handful of interior sets. Eddie Phillips plays the villain, the lowborn chauffeur of highborn Barbara Kent. She marries him on an impulse then lives to regret it. When Phillips is apparently killed, she starts life all over again as the wife of district attorney Monte Blue. But then her "forgotten past" catches up with her when Phillips shows up very much alive. When her intrusive first husband is promptly murdered -- this time for real -- Kent falls under suspicion, and for a while it looks as though the DA is going to be in the awkward position of prosecuting his own wife!
