Origins Of The Motion Picture (1956): The amazing discoveries in science and technology that led to the creation of the motion picture camera and projector are presented in this fascinating history. DaVinci's camera obscura, the Zoetrope, exotic Victorian picture wheels, Muybridge's famous photography of galloping horses are a few of the many high points featured in the story of the creation of the industry that gave birth to Hollywood.
Lumiere Premiere Program (1895): This is the actual program which premiered in France in 1895. High points include the world's first projected motion picture, Workers Coming Out Of A Factory At Monplaisir (1894) by Louis Lumiere, Charge of The French Cuirassiers (which terrified audiences into leaping from their seats) and some of film's earliest slapstick.
Selig-Tribune #21 (1916): Billed as "The world's greatest news films," the Selig-Tribune organization produced these motion picture montages from around the world. Harvard crewmen, a huge cathedral encased in ice, modern battleships and college hi-jinks are among the subjects featured in this edition.
Under Royal Patronage (1914): In this well-produced very early romantic comedy, European royals get American chums to impersonate them to avoid a pre-arranged marriage. Starring Francis X. Bushman, Bryant Washburn; Directed by E.H. Calvert.
Short documentaries covering the history of silent film: "Origins of the Motion Picture," "Archeology of the Cinema," "Let's Go to the Movies," "Gunsmoke Editing Film" and a film showing how a scene from Fritz Lang's "You Only Live Once" was edited.
