Ostensibly based on a story by pulp writer James Oliver Curwood, this Northwest melodrama from independent producer Paul Gerson starred French-born Gaston Glass as Norton Mitchell, a young engineer saved from a gang of thieves by Violet Kenney (Dorothy Dwan and her father Burt (Sam Allen). Following the Kenneys to the gold fields of Alaska, Norton discovers that Violet is reduced to singing in a sleazy dancehall in order to care for her ailing father. When Burt suddenly needs an expensive emergency operation, Violet falls prey to the lecherous Petrov (Earl Metcalfe, who promises to take care of the costs if she consents to become his wife. Both Violet and Burt, however, are saved in the nick of time by Norton and his clever dog "Lightning Girl." Apart from the Northwestern setting and the involvement of a dog, Call of the Klondike had nothing in common with the 1950 Monogram adventure of the same name.
