On the eve of an inevitable range war between Jeff Randall and Mark Sheldon, Grant Bradley rides onto the Randall Ranch looking for work as a cowboy and gunman. Grant is given the job and soon begins a romance with Randall's daughter Joan. Sheldon, a crooked cattle dealer, has bought property on which a vital transportation route exists and limits access to it to competing ranchers, thus causing the present dispute. Grant is really Sheldon's son, but he keeps this a secret as he is ashamed of the fact that his father killed a rancher five years earlier. Suspicions about Grant are soon raised, however, when he becomes friendly with Deacon Webster, Sheldon's henchman.
