A decidedly uneven comedy-drama that veers off at a right angle before the midway point is reached, this story by director Nunnally Johnson deals with Willie, a Hollywood producer (Henry Fonda) and Ann (Leslie Caron), an aspiring actress. When they meet there are several comic scenes but then as the down-and-out producer and the starlet fall in love, marry, and she proceeds full steam ahead with her career, everything changes. They go to the Riviera to film, and there she meets the handsome Marco (Cesare Danova) and cannot resist his charms -- the marriage to Willie has never had a sexual component. Willie hires two disreputable types to shadow his wife and Marco, as he cannot control his jealousy. By this time, the hilarious moments of farce seem to be a long distance away.
