DESCRIPTION:

When his sister Ruth is slain in her cabin by an unknown assailant, rancher Brian Delaney poses as a bandit known as "The Yellow Seal" in order to track down the killer. In befriending kindly Don Esteban and his daughter Teresa, Delaney incurs the enmity of gambler Howard Steele, who kidnaps the girl and spirits her away. Brian follows them into the hills, hoping to rescue Teresa but not knowing that his pursuit will eventually bring him face to face with his sister's murderer.

Harry Carey westerns produced by Hunt Stromberg for release during the 1925-26 season were exemplary examples of the genre, put together with exceptional care. Every dollar spent "showed" on the screen in terms of setting, staging, and picturesque outdoor locations. Their scripts were judiciously tailored to exploit the star's well-established persona. The Prairie Pirate, based on a suspenseful story by prolific Western writer W. C. Tuttle, presented Carey with one of his finest roles and ranks among the best of his relatively few surviving silents.

Harry avenges the murder of his sister by giving the gang that did it the Robin Hood treatment. Silent.
